SMP Statement on Governor Roy Cooper's Decision to Run for U.S. Senate
Senate Majority PAC Spokesperson Lauren French released the following statement after former North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper announced his decision to run for the U.S. Senate:
“We congratulate Governor Cooper on his decision to continue serving the state of North Carolina by running for the U.S. Senate. During his time as governor, Roy Cooper delivered for North Carolina — creating 640,000 good-paying jobs and expanding Medicaid to cover more than 600,000 North Carolinians. Now, that progress is under attack as Washington Republicans continue to prioritize the rich and well-connected ahead of working Americans and families struggling to make ends meet.
“Governor Cooper has shown time and again he is a fighter who will deliver meaningful change for North Carolinians, and his entrance into the race confirms the state is a prime pick-up opportunity for Democrats. This comes as Republican frontrunner Michael Whatley has shown he would vote lockstep against North Carolina by raising health care costs and opposing opportunities for economic growth. North Carolinians deserve a senator who fights for them — not one who’s just another rubber stamp on an extreme agenda.”
