As Costs Climb, Senator Husted Abandons Ohio Families Who Rely on Affordable Care
Today, Senator Jon Husted turned his back on Ohio families, siding with MAGA Republicans to keep costs high by supporting a funding bill that fails to address looming health care price hikes.
Instead of protecting health care affordability and reversing devastating Medicaid cuts, Husted voted to ignore impending health care premium hikes and clear the way for a Trump-Republican agenda that raises costs on working families.
“Senator Husted is showing Ohio exactly who he fights for, and it’s not the families struggling to afford a doctor’s visit,” said Senate Majority PAC Press Secretary Christyna Thompson. “Ohio families are already struggling to keep up with the cost of everyday essentials, and this reckless decision will only make it harder for Ohioans to get the affordable health care they need.”
Husted has repeatedly supported Republican efforts to slash funding for Medicaid and raise personal health care premiums — pushing health care further out of reach for working people.
If the Affordable Care Act tax credits expire in 2026, more than 580,000 Ohioans could see significantly higher costs for health care insurance. Some Ohio insurance companies are proposing a rate increase of more than 30%. The Urban Institute estimates that annual premiums could increase anywhere from $387 to $2,914 if the tax credits expire.
Today’s vote also puts Husted on the record voting for Republican cuts to Medicaid. In Ohio, more than 3 million people rely on Medicaid for their health care, and today’s vote will make it harder for these individuals to receive quality care.
