As Costs Climb, Senator Collins Abandons Maine Families Who Rely on Affordable Care

Today, Senator Susan Collins turned her back on Maine families, siding with Donald Trump and Senate Republicans to keep costs high by supporting a funding bill that fails to address looming health care price hikes.

Instead of protecting health care affordability and reversing devastating Medicaid cuts, ‘Concerned’ Collins voted to ignore impending health care premium hikes and clear the way for a Trump-Republican agenda that raises costs on working families.

“Susan Collins’ shtick is getting old. After spending days expressing her ‘deep concern,’ Collins did what she always does, sided with billionaires and big corporations while everyday people in Maine are left to shoulder the rising costs of health care,” said Senate Majority PAC Press Secretary Christyna Thompson. “Fake concern doesn’t pay the bills, Senator Collins.”

Maine will be among the hardest hit by premium price hikes if the Affordable Care Act tax credits are not extended for working families. More than 70,000 people in Maine are already set to see a nearly 24% price spike on their health care policies. If the tax credits expire, families will be paying for those price hikes out of pocket.

Collins also supported Republican-led legislation to slash Medicaid funding nationwide and raise premiums – policies that would put care further out of reach for thousands of Mainers. More than 400,000 people in Maine rely on MaineCare for health care.
