WinSenate Ad Admonishes Jon Husted for Bribery Scandal That Hurt Ohioan Families

Today, WinSenate released a new ad campaign rebuking Jon Husted for benefiting from the largest corruption scandal in Ohio history.

FirstEnergy, a major energy provider in Ohio, paid nearly $60 million to get a bailout passed for unprofitable energy plants, costing energy customers in the state approximately half a $1 billion.

Husted, who was lieutenant governor at the time, has faced renewed scrutiny over his ties to FirstEnergy, including the company secretly funneling $1 million to a dark-money group that backed his 2018 campaign for governor. Despite Ohioans paying exorbitant energy costs as fallout from the scandal, Husted refuses to take accountability for failing Ohio, even as his ties to the company are at the center of it, having to testify during proceedings on the case.

“FirstEnergy, the largest corruption scam in the state’s history, and Jon Husted is at the center of it,” the narrator says in the 30-second ad. “…Husted got a million bucks to help his campaign, FirstEnergy got a bailout, and Ohioans got screwed.”

The ad will air on television stations throughout the state as well as on digital streaming platforms.
