New Ad: Ashley Hinson Is Cashing In While Iowans Get Cancer

Today, WinSenate is putting $2.2 million behind a new TV and digital ad campaign exposing how Ashley Hinson took money from companies fueling Iowa’s cancer crisis.

Iowa has the second-highest cancer rate in the country and is one of only a handful of states where the rate is still climbing. Hinson claims to take the crisis seriously, but she’s taken at least $5,000 in PAC money from pesticide makers Corteva and Bayer, companies whose products have been linked to Iowa’s cancer rates by researchers studying the state’s chemical exposure. Bayer is currently fighting billions in Roundup cancer lawsuits. Hinson has also taken more than $300,000 from corporations with links to water pollution and cancer-causing chemicals.

Hinson has also advanced the industry’s agenda in Congress. She voted against the PFAS Action Act, which would have forced the EPA to monitor waterways for PFAS, chemicals also linked to cancer. She backed the PERMIT Act, legislation narrowing the Clean Water Actand carving out exemptions for agricultural and industrial polluters.

“As a doctor, I cannot ignore what is happening, but Ashley Hinson is on the side of corporations making chemicals linked to cancer,” Dr. Selden, a Huxley resident, says in the 30-second ad. “Ashley Hinson took over $300,000 from companies that are contaminating our water and voted to roll back clean water protections. Ashley Hinson looked the other way after taking their money. Her decisions are making Iowa sick.”

The ad campaign will run on TV stations statewide, plus digital and streaming platforms.
