New Ad: Susan Collins Rewrote the Contracting Rules. Her Husband’s Firm Collected $75 Million.

Today, WinSenate released “Kevin,” a new ad focused on how Susan Collins used her Senate seat to rewrite federal contracting rules while a lobbying and consulting firm, where her husband was a top executive, took in tens of millions in federal contracts.

Thomas Daffron, a longtime Collins adviser who ran her leadership PAC and who she later married, steered her onto the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee, which oversees federal contracting. From that seat, Collins wrote contracting rules on federal acquisition offices and the procurement workforce.

That was exactly the business of Jefferson Consulting, where Daffron served as chief operating officer from 2006 to 2016. Over that decade, the firm landed $75 million in federal acquisition and procurement contracts, including work for the same kinds of acquisition offices as Collins’ reforms targeted. This benefited the Collins household greatly. In 2011, the year before she married Daffron, Collins reported more debts than assets. Her latest disclosure listsbetween $4 million and $10 million in assets.

“Senator Collins got herself put on a new committee, then she used her position to rewrite federal contracting rules,” Kevin says in the ad. “Which benefitted her husband’s company to the tune of $75 million… Susan Collins is not working for working class people.”

“Kevin” will air on broadcast, digital, and streaming across Maine.
