On Dobbs Anniversary, Senate Republican Candidates Hold On Tight to Extreme, Anti-Abortion Views
Two years ago today, the Supreme Court stripped away women’s constitutional freedom to access reproductive health care in the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision.
Extreme MAGA politicians were overjoyed at the ruling and while they celebrated the chaos that ensued, it also meant celebrating the loss of women’s autonomy and their lives being put at risk.
Every major GOP Senate candidate has found ways to appease pro-life extremists in their states and oppose abortion protection. As a reminder, here’s what they have said on abortion:
Arizona: Kari Lake celebrating Dobbs: “I’m so happy that’s been overturned. I’m so happy that we’re going to be saving the lives of the unborn and finally protecting the rights of the unborn. I believe in Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit Of Happiness for ALL Arizonans.”
Florida: Rick Scott celebrating Dobbs: “Today, the Court correctly interpreted the Constitution, defended human dignity and the foundational principle of federalism, and rightly declared that there is no constitutional right to end the life of an unborn child.”
Maryland: Larry Hogan on his failure to protect abortion access in Maryland via a constitutional ballot measure: “I understand why this is such an important and emotional issue for women across Maryland and across the country. This, I already took a position on this bill, I said it wasn’t really necessary.”
Michigan: Mike Rogers touts his anti-abortion voting record: “As a congressman in 2010, Michigan Republican Mike Rogers said he supported abortion under only one circumstance. ‘I believe abortions should be legal only to prevent the death of the mother,’ he said in a local interview. While serving in the US House before Roe v. Wade was overturned, Rogers consistently voted for 20-week abortion bans.”
Montana: Tim Sheehy compares abortion to murder: “It’s really frustrating how, you know, we have one party in this country that seems to be bent on murdering our unborn children and taking that, taking that tack, you know, in a very militant way.”
Nevada: Sam Brown pledges to confirm only anti-abortion judges: “In previously unreported tracking footage from a 2022 campaign event, Brown said that he would not vote to confirm any judges that support Roe v. Wade. ‘I would not vote to confirm someone who continues to support Roe v. Wade,’ Brown said. ‘We’ve got to do everything we can to support the sanctity of life.’”
Ohio: Bernie Moreno celebrating Dobbs: “One year ago today, the Supreme Court reversed a terrible decision made over 50 years ago that led to the ending of millions of unborn lives. Today, let’s celebrate that monumental victory for the cause of life and commit to always fighting for the most vulnerable.”
Pennsylvania: Dave McCormick on the likely overturning of Roe: “If in fact the decision of the court turns out to be what was in this brief, this would be a huge step forward and huge victory for the protection of life.”
Texas: Ted Cruz celebrating Dobbs: “The Supreme Court’s decision in the Dobbs case, reversing Roe v. Wade, is nothing short of a massive victory for life, and it will save the lives of millions of innocent babies.”
Wisconsin: Eric Hovde Supports a 12-Week Abortion Ban: “US Senate Hopeful Eric Hovde Says 12-14 Week Abortion Ban ‘Probably A Reasonable Time Range’”
