Columbus Dispatch: Bernie Moreno: Founding fathers would ‘murder’ any Ohio voter supporting abortion rights

Yesterday, the Columbus Dispatch revealed Bernie Moreno, justified his opposition to abortion, saying that America’s founding fathers would “murder” any Ohio voter supporting abortion rights. These comments came just months before Ohio voted to protect reproductive rights in last November’s referendum.

Moreno also stated anyone who is pregnant should take “personal responsibility.” Part of personal responsibility is being able to make decisions about your own body. Moreno does not want women to have that right, even in the case of rape or incest.

This Columbus Dispatch story follows a swath of local and national media coverage on Ohio women’s outrage with anti-abortion extremist Moreno after he chastised crazed suburban women as “single-issue” voters and said that women over 50 don’t have a reason to support abortion access.

Below are key excerpts from Columbus Dispatch or click HERE to read the full story:

  • Moreno: “Could you imagine if we could go back into the DeLorean, we popped into the DeLorean out there and you went back and met Madison and Hamilton and Washington and said, ‘Hey, are you in favor of abortion?’ They would murder you.”
  • “It’s undeniable: Bernie Moreno does not support your right to access abortion,” said Kellie Copeland, executive director of Abortion Forward, which endorsed Brown in the Senate race. “He has nothing but disdain and disgust for people who need to access abortion care.
  • But Moreno has been caught with his foot in his mouth more than once. During a July campaign event, he blamed the passage of the abortion rights amendment in Ohio on poor turnout among evangelical voters. He also faced backlash after chiding suburban women who prioritize abortion rights at the ballot box, according to audio obtained by the USA TODAY Network Ohio Bureau and first reported by NBC4 in Columbus.
  • “Are you trying to lose the election?” former Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley posted on X. “Asking for a friend.”
