ICYMI: Shady Sheehy Caught Plagiarizing Four Times
This past week, Shady Sheehy’s book Mudslingers was exposed for plagiarism, with The Daily Montanan revealing four clear instances of Sheehy copying the work of others:
- Page 33: A definition of “smokejumper” taken nearly verbatim from Wikipedia without citation.
- Page 208: Four paragraphs lifted from Wildfire Today, a reputable source for wildfire news.
- Page 237: Another four-paragraph section closely resembling content from The Backseat Pilot.
- Page 289: A passage almost identical to an article from the San Marino Tribune.
The Daily Montanan also reminded voters that Sheehy’s plagiarism isn’t a one-off; it’s the latest in a series of lies that Sheehy has made during his campaign for Senate. In the past year alone, Sheehy has been accused of lying about how he got a bullet in his arm, fact-checked over his far-fetched story of parachuting into Glacier National Park as a part of a military exercise, and got caught claiming that profits from the plagiarized book would go to help fallen firefighters, when it actually went to a group that lobbied for his own industry.
“Sheehy’s ethical breach is a stern reminder for Montana voters that Sheehy will always willingly take the easy way out, no matter what it means for others,” said SMP spokesperson Von Walker. “How can Montanans trust a word that comes out of Sheehy’s mouth when the words he wrote down aren’t even his own?”
