New Ad: WinSenate Nails Michael Whatley For Getting Rich as North Carolina Gets Gouged At The Pump

Today, WinSenate dropped a new ad campaign going after Michael Whatley for cashing in as a Big Oil lobbyist while North Carolinians get hammered at the gas pump.

Whatley spent two decades lobbying for oil and energy companies, including Chevron, Exxon, and Duke Energy. That career built him a net worth of up to $12 million, with close to a million-and-a-half still in oil and gas investments. Part of that fortune is also up to $445,000 in Duke Energy stock; a company Whatley helped secure rate increases for that have jacked up North Carolina families’ power bills. Now those same families are getting squeezed again at the pump, with gas prices spiking statewide amid the Whatley-backed Iran war.

“[Michael Whatley] got rich lobbying for Big Oil, while they jack up prices on you,” the narrator says in the 30-second ad. “For Duke Energy, he argued for rate increases on homeowners, and now owns nearly half a million in Duke Stock. So now, the more you pay, the more Whatley makes. A millionaire energy lobbyist as our Senator, Carolina can’t afford it.”

The $5 million ad campaign will air on TV stations statewide.
