Philadelphia Inquirer: Bob Casey Won Last Night’s PA Senate Debate

Last night, Senator Bob Casey and Connecticut hedge fund millionaire Dave McCormick met for their final debate.

This event served as a glaring reminder for all Pennsylvanians of the danger a Senator McCormick would pose on the issues that matter – abortion, prescription drug costs, and tax cuts for the middle-class, not corporations. McCormick spent his time on stage angry, floundering, and growing increasingly defensive over valid concerns about his time as a hedge fund CEO. At one point, McCormick loudly exclaimed that Bridgewater, which harmed Pennsylvania teacher pensions and invested in Chinese fentanyl, was “great.”

Meanwhile, Senator Casey used his time on stage to highlight how he’s fighting for Pennsylvanians and has delivered real results.

We understand we could be seen as partisan in our reviews so see below for the Philadelphia Inquirer’s takeaways from the debate, where they rated Senator Casey far and away the winner:

  • Sen. Bob Casey scored big and repeatedly by calmly reminding voters about his considerable record of serving the people of Pennsylvania and that McCormick’s background is as a former hedge fund CEO. It was a stark contrast to McCormick’s slick, fast-talking, used car salesman performance. One of Casey’s best moments of the night came when he said of McCormick, “How do you lie about where you live?”
  • [Casey’s] a workhorse, not a show horse. He is a straight shooter, knows Pennsylvania, and understands issues facing middle-class voters
  • Casey was smart to draw attention to his high-speed internet investments and the fact that McCormick lives in Connecticut
  • Early in the debate, McCormick called abortion a “states rights issue,” which couldn’t be more wrong. It’s a women’s rights issue.
  • McCormick’s debate performance was a reminder of just how ill-suited he is to replace Casey.
  • It was good to hear from Mr. McCormick, who skipped out on an endorsement interview with The Inquirer Editorial Board. It would have been nice to ask him to clarify some of his answers, many of which don’t match his record. Ultimately, he’s not as smooth a liar as JD Vance
