Senate Majority PAC Ad Zeroes In On Michael Whatley’s Connection to Child Sex Predator

Senate Majority PAC launched two ads this week focused on Michael Whatley’s appointment of a convicted child sex offender to multiple positions within the North Carolina Republican Party during Whatley’s time as chair.

Whatley served as chairman of the North Carolina Republican Party from 2019 to 2024, during which he appointed Harvey Lee West Jr., a registered sex offender convicted in 2000 of five counts of taking indecent liberties with a child, to a powerful state party committee. Whatley was aware of West’s criminal record and promoted him regardless.

“Michael Whatley hired Harvey Lee West, a man charged with molesting young girls who spent six years in prison,” Tyson M., a Durham resident, says in the 30-second ad. “Whatley protected his political friends instead of protecting kids. He should never be a senator.”

The ads, which include 30- and 15-second versions, will air on digital and streaming platforms. Senate Majority PAC is also using Twitter to air additional ads within this campaign in Washington, D.C. and North Carolina.
