SMP Statement on Angela Alsobrooks' Victory in Maryland

Senate Majority PAC President JB Poersch issued the following statement congratulating Angela Alsobrooks on her historic victory in Maryland’s U.S. Senate race that makes her the first Black woman elected to the U.S. Senate in Maryland and marks the first time in United States history that two Black women will simultaneously serve in the Senate:

“Angela Alsobrooks’ election marks a historic moment, as she becomes the first Black woman elected to the U.S. Senate from Maryland. With her win, Marylanders elected a public servant with a strong history of fighting for their values. She will now take that commitment to the U.S. Senate, where she’ll continue to defend abortion access, protect health care, and safeguard personal freedoms that are under attack. Angela Alsobrooks has always put the people of Maryland first, and that’s exactly what she will continue to do in office.

“In electing Senator-elect Alsobrooks, Maryland voters also made a decisive statement—rejecting National Republican attempts to elect a candidate who would’ve stood in lockstep with Mitch McConnell and his dangerous platform that only promised more gridlock, more partisanship, and more attacks on Marylanders’ rights.

“Our investments in the state played a clear role reminding Marylanders how much was at stake in their Senate race. This election wasn’t just about a Senate seat; it was about the direction of Maryland and the nation. And once again, Marylanders made sure their voices were heard loud and clear.”
