SMP Statement on Florida’s Senate General Election

With the primary now behind us, Florida’s Senate race and general election is set with Debbie Mucarsel-Powell prepared to take on and unseat MAGA extremist Rick Scott. As Scott enters the general election, he does so saddled with a toxic, harmful, and self-serving record in the Senate that speaks for itself.

Scott’s time in the U.S. Senate builds on his infamous history of Medicare fraud, where he made hundreds of millions of dollars while defrauding Floridians. Now in Florida Senate election news, Scott has pushed to sunset Medicare and Social Security, a plan that would rip away vital support that millions of Florida voters rely on.

When it comes to women’s reproductive rights, Scott stands as an abortion extremist. He’s voted against protecting IVF, proudly declared himself “100% pro-life,” supports Florida’s six-week abortion ban, and celebrated the overturning of Roe v. Wade, which he’s pushed for since 2010.

Florida voters understand that this Florida Senate race offers a crucial opportunity to rid themselves of a man who’s driven their state down the wrong path and instead support Mucarsel-Powell who understands the value of hard work and will always fight for hardworking families.

“Come November, Florida voters will kick Rick Scott out of the Senate and elect Debbie Mucarsel-Powell to finally deliver results for hardworking families,” said Senate Majority PAC President, JB Poersch. “Voters see through Scott’s lies and failed, debunked policies, and will choose a candidate who fights for their interests—not just the interests of the wealthy. Floridians know the choice couldn’t be clearer, and the stakes couldn’t be higher.”
