SMP Statement on James Craig’s Senate Candidacy

Today, Michigan’s absurd, D-List Senate GOP primary grew as James Craig launched his campaign for Senate.

Craig is most widely known as a failed 2022 GOP gubernatorial candidate whose candidacy was plagued with scandals and who ultimately didn’t make it onto the ballot after subcontractors faked the signatures he needed for his nomination petition.

Now Craig is joining former Rep. Mike Rogers in this race where they share equally out of touch and dangerous beliefs. After all, Craig has previously stated that Florida’s homophobic “Don’t Say Gay” law didn’t go far enough and backed a total abortion ban that would criminalize the procedure as manslaughter.

“James Craig is a conspiratorial wannabe politician whose candidacy will do nothing but enflame the Michigan GOP primary,” said Senate Majority PAC Spokesperson Sarah Guggenheimer. “His campaign launch is just the latest proof that Mitch McConnell has failed to control GOP primaries. And as Craig and Rogers fight it out in their race to the far-right, Michiganders will clearly see how out of touch these extremists are.”
