SMP Statement on Reverend Warnock’s Victory in Georgia as Democrats Expand Senate Majority
SMP-affiliated groups spent over $85.7 million on paid media, organizing, and voter mobilization efforts in Georgia during 2022 cycle
Washington, D.C. – Senate Majority PAC (SMP) President JB Poersch released the following statement congratulating Reverend Raphael Warnock on his re-election victory in Georgia, expanding our Democratic majority in the U.S. Senate:
“With Reverend Warnock’s win, Senate Democrats defied the odds and bucked conventional wisdom to achieve a historic victory—this election marks the first midterm since 1934 where the party in power successfully defended every incumbent Senate seat. Voters in Georgia and across the country have sent a message loud and clear by firmly rejecting GOP extremism and re-electing a Democratic Senate majority that will continue delivering for the American people.”
“As the top Democratic outside group on the airwaves, we’re deeply proud that our strategic spending in Georgia, including over $85.7 million in paid media, organizing, and mobilization efforts, helped to reach a diverse electorate and define our opponent early on as unfit to serve. Through strong partnerships with our allies and sustained communications with Georgians on the doors, phones, airwaves, and online, we held Walker accountable and made the choice crystal clear for voters: an opponent with a pattern of lying, violence, and disturbing conduct versus a Senator with a proven track record of getting things done who has fought for Georgia at every turn.”
“A son of Savannah and a man of faith, Reverend Warnock will always remember where he came from and who he’s fighting for: the people of Georgia. Whether he’s speaking from behind the pulpit as a pastor at the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church or from his bully pulpit as a Senator, Reverend Warnock will continue putting his values into action by fighting to defend our freedoms, protect voting rights, and ensure the dignity of all working people.”
“We thank and commend Senate Democratic Leader Schumer for his strong leadership and the entire Senate Democratic Caucus for their hard work this cycle. Congratulations to each of our winning candidates, their hard-working campaigns, our local and national allies and partners, the DSCC, and our SMP staff for their tireless efforts and the pivotal role they each played in expanding our Democratic Senate majority during one of the most important elections in our lifetimes.”
For Background Purposes – SMP’s 2022 Total Investments in Georgia:
- During the general and runoff elections, SMP and its affiliated groups invested over $85.7 million in paid media, organizing, and voter mobilization efforts, including television, radio, direct mail, and digital advertising.
- During the runoff election period, we invested over $23.5 million in television and digital advertising alone — outspending our Republican IE counterpart by 2-to-1 on the airwaves and going up on air a week before them.
- As the top Democratic outside group on the airwaves, we hammered our opponent for his pattern of violence against women and disturbing conduct. We laid the groundwork for our line of attack early on by focusing on his history of lying, exaggerating his business record, and preying on veterans.
- Through our affiliated nonprofit organization Majority Forward and in partnership with the America Votes coalition, we made an eight-figure investment in a robust organizing and voter mobilization program to turn out voters during the general and runoff elections in Georgia, including more than $11 million during the runoff election alone.
