Susan Collins Voted to Keep American Service Members in Trump's Illegal War
Today, Republican Sen. Susan Collins voted against the Iran War Powers Resolution, enabling President Trump to continue his illegal conflict that has already claimed the lives of American servicemembers. This failed vote leaves Congress with limited authority to rein in Trump’s military actions as Maine families face soaring gas prices and rising manufacturing costs. Collins has maintained steadfast support for Trump’s illegal war in Iran, despite broad opposition from the majority of Americans.
“Susan Collins is asking Mainers to re-elect her while she is failing to stand for them. She voted today to let Donald Trump keep waging an illegal war without a single check from Congress,” said Senate Majority PAC Press Secretary Christyna Thompson. “There is no version of today’s vote that puts Maine first. If she’s already neglecting her constitutional duty as a senator, why should Mainers put her back in the Senate?”
This is not Collins’ first time backing President Trump’s unpopular agenda. Last June, she voted to advance President Trump’s devastating One Big Beautiful Bill, doubling down on unpopular policies that delivered the most severe cuts to Medicaid in history. Despite months of data showing that the bill would drive up health care prices and kick thousands of Mainers from insurance, Collins sided with Trump, leaving Mainers bearing the brunt of the costs.
